What is a process server?

A process server is a trained professional who delivers legal documents (e.g. court summonses, statutory demands, injunctions) to the intended recipient. This ensures the recipient officially knows about the legal action, preventing later claims of “I never saw it.” The service must follow legal rules of delivery. At Tremark, we personally handle the delivery and proof: our process server hands the papers directly to the person (if possible) or follows lawful alternatives. We then provide a legally valid witness statement or certificate of service (a signed record of when and how the documents were delivered) – all included in our fee of what a process server costs.

Why use a professional process server?

Using a regulated professional like us gives you confidence and compliance. We are accredited, insured, and subject to industry standards. For example, all our agents are rigorously vetted and security-screened to the BS7858 standard. We also hold ISO9001 quality certification. These credentials (along with ABI membership and FSQS accreditation) show our commitment to quality and legal compliance. In practice, this means we operate nationwide and internationally with consistency: we have offices in Leeds, London, and Leicester, and we serve clients in every part of the UK. Our full UK coverage and years of experience mean faster, more reliable service for you.

  • Trusted Professionals: Every process server we use is screened (BS7858) and bound by strict conduct standards.
  • Quality Certified: Tremark’s procedures are ISO9001 certified, reflecting our dedication to quality management.
  • Legal Compliance: We operate under the law. Our agents follow all rules for process serving, and we document everything to protect your case.

These trust factors mean when you ask “how much does a process server cost?”, you’re not just paying for delivery, but for an expert, compliant service you can rely on.

How Much Does a Process Server Cost: UK Pricing Tiers

We have three main UK pricing tiers (VAT exclusive) to suit different needs:

  • Standard Service – £120+VAT (England & Wales): Includes up to 3 attempts at the address, with the first attempt within 5 working days. This is our most economical option for routine cases.
  • Urgent Service – £165+VAT (England & Wales): Includes up to 3 attempts, with the first visit within 48 hours. Use this when timing is tight.
  • Same-Day Service – from £195+VAT (England & Wales): We can arrange service on the same day you instruct us. This option includes up to 2.5 hours of field time. (Any time beyond 2.5 hours is billed at £80/hour, plus 70p per mile for travel.)

For Scotland (non-rural) we charge a single fee of £175+VAT (three attempts included). In Northern Ireland, the fee is £175+VAT (up to 2 attempts). (These higher fees reflect extra requirements there.)

All prices above are quoted exclusive of VAT – for clarity, VAT is added at 20% on top. If you need multiple documents served, we still charge one flat fee per person. That means serving two different people at the same address would be double our standard fee of what a process server costs (since fees are per individual served).

What’s included in our fixed fee?

Our flat fee covers almost everything you need for the serve:

  • Service Attempts: Up to three visits at the address are included in the fixed fee (Northern Ireland includes two visits). We go when people are usually home (including evenings if needed), to maximise success.
  • Proof of Service: We include a signed witness statement or certificate of service with every job. This formal document details when and how the papers were served, and is what you file with the court.
  • Document Printing: We handle the logistics. You can email us the documents or deliver them, and we will print up to 10 pages at no extra charge. (Most standard processes involve well under 10 pages.)
  • Certainty of Price: Unless we agree additional work, there are no surprise extras for basic service. For instance, we cover an address even if people aren’t in on first attempt – we keep coming back up to the limit of attempts at no extra fee.

Additional Charges

While our fixed fee covers the core service, there are a few common extras to note when evaluating how much a process server costs:

  • Affidavit of Service: If your case needs a sworn affidavit instead of a standard witness statement, we charge a small £10 fee.
  • Extra Printing: Any pages beyond the initial 10 are charged at a nominal rate (around 10p per page). (This is rarely needed for typical court documents.)
  • Extended Same-Day Work: Our Same-Day fee includes 2.5 hours on the job; any time beyond that is billed at £80/hour, plus 70p per mile travel. This rarely applies unless we are coordinating multiple serves or exceptional delays.

(For completeness: we can also collect documents from your offices if needed – that’s £10 within Leeds or £25 in London – but most clients simply email us their papers.)

How fast can documents be served?

Timing is a common concern. With our Standard service, we aim to visit the address within 5 working days. If you have an urgent court date, our Urgent tier guarantees the first attempt within 48 hours. For true emergencies, our Same-Day option means we send an agent to attempt service on the same day you instruct us, subject to availability. In practice, this means from instruction to delivery can be just hours or days, depending on which tier you choose. We report promptly: you’ll get updates when service is achieved (or if all attempts fail).

International Process Serving

Beyond the UK, we offer worldwide process serving through our global network. We have trusted agents and partners in over 150 countries, covering Europe, the Americas, Asia, Australasia, Africa, and more. International service is inherently more complex (legal requirements vary greatly), but we handle it end-to-end. In all cases, we ensure every step meets local rules. Our field agents are trained in both the legal aspects and cultural nuances. The price for international service depends on the country and method (often higher due to the extra work), but we provide a clear quote up front.
