In light of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic the Association of British Investigators (ABI) opted to hold its 50th annual general meeting virtually via a zoom video conference. The meeting was due to be held at the beautiful De Vere Tortworth Court Hotel in Gloucestershire, however the grounds of the hotel were replaced by the attendees living rooms, kitchens and bookcase laden studies as a large number of members attended from across the globe.
The Frank Martin Award
During the successful event Tremark’s Managing Director, Mark Hodgson was awarded the prestigious ‘Frank Martin Award’. The award is presented to a member who is considered to have served the Association and Industry above and beyond the call of duty.
Mark became a member of the ABI in 2003 and has played an active role in the ABI, eventually becoming President before retiring from the board in 2018. Tremark Associates is a corporate member of the Association in it’s own right.
Mark was nominated for the award by Tony Imossi as fellow former Past President and the current head of the ABI Secretariat who described Hodgson as an “Industry Captain” in his nomination to the board.
Rise to Prominence
Imossi revealed that Mark first came to prominence when the Tremark managing director raised an issue with him about an anomaly that Mark had noted in the access to the Land Registry’s Proprietors’ Register, during Imossi’s tenure as President.
“Mark’s vision was remarkable and the point he made not only gained traction with numerous lawyers but the Land Registry in Scotland too. Although the ABI did not succeed in its attempts to persuade the (HM) Land Registry to review its policy, an effort that went as far as an application for Judicial Review in the High Court, it was none the less a visionary and innovative initiative by Mark.”
Having been elected to the ABI board by the members, Mark, was initially given the responsibility for the association’s IT and Website. It was in that capacity, that Mark took the first and monumental steps to begin the complete overhaul of the ABI’s public-facing shop window and modernise its backroom administration.
“Mark’s innovative vision and sheer determination led the website developers to create a tool that completely catapulted the Association into the modern IT world and far ahead of its rivals who have been left behind in the ABI’s wake” continued Imossi.
Of his leadership of the ABI Tony described Mark as someone who met challenge’s head on, as having led the ABI through to what proved to be one of the ABI’s most successful periods in its history. Tony Imossi’s nomination of Mark can be read in full by clicking here.
All of us at Tremark Associates want to congratulate Mark on receiving the prestigious Award.
